【 駐韓美軍(미8군/유엔사), 한국관련 군가반 】

세계제2차대전을 끝내면서 국내에 주둔하기 시작한 미군과 이어 한국전쟁을 계기로 국내에 들어온 유엔군 자격의 많은 외국군대들이 있었지만 한국관련 음악이 들어간 음반을 국내에서 제작한 것은 한두장이 고작인 것 같읍니다. 나는 상당한 기간 우리군가, 그중 국내반를 모으면서 눈여겨 보고 또 보이면 열성을 다해 수집을 했고.. 혹자는 이게 우리나라, 군가와 무슨 관련이 있다고? 할지 모르겠지만 우선 외국군대로서 우리나라에 주둔해 있었고, 주둔지인 우리나라에서 제작했고 또 음반에 우리의 대표적인 전통음악, 아리랑, 애국가 등이 수록되어 있다는것이지요. 특히 근간엔 아리랑이 세계에서 제일 아름다운 리듬으로 선정이 되었다고도 하네요. 누가 이 음반말고 주한 외국군 군가반을 봤을까요? 제가 영어를 잘 몰라 정확한 번역을 못해서.. 해서 여기에 여러장의 사진과 원문을 그대로 적어서 옮겼으니 자세히 봐 주시고.. 당시 많은량이 제작되진 않았을걸로 보이고 배포선 또한 고위급 군 관계자들로 소수인에 제한되었을것으로 추정되는 만큼 메이아들도 소장하기가 쉽지않는 반일것입니다. 한편 군사박물관이나 음반박물관은 물론 주한미군 관련이나 한미군사자료로도 가치가 있을것 같읍니다.

Two centuries ago, our first citizen –soldier took flintlock from the wall, bade his family goodbye and marched out to the first muster of the United States Army. The echo of his footsteps has been the inspiration for six generations of Americans.

Each time our nation’s security and honor have been threatened, Americans have rallied to the colors. and each time , the rolls have included men- and women- of every color, creed, race and social strata, for patriotism knows no prejudice. The unifying motivation has been a shared conviction that America- its value system, it's a territory, its citizens- was worth defending and, if need be, dying for. It was this unwavering belief in Country- and, for most, in God- that sustained our fightig men in the face of all privations and hazards- even the hall of battle.

Out debt to the American soldiers of yestyear is finalculable. They brought America safely through every criets in her long history, albeit at terrible cost- as tens upon tens of thousand of heroes graves bear mute evidence. And when the guns were silent, they contribued their versatkle skilla and diaciplined strenghtto develop and expand our economy and our institutions. Year by year- at home and abroad , in battle and out- they forged the Unitde States Army’s rocord of allegiance, of valor, of professionalism. This heritage is our legacy, the wellspering of our enormous pride in service. His heritage in also our challenge to be equal to tommorrow’s teats.

Our American military heritage finds partal expression in music- in songs that shortened the route march, in ballads that eased pain and brought laughter: in hymns that revitalized faith, and in marrial airs that stiffened the spine. In their make-up , our Armies have always been a crose-section of American society. So, too, has Army music generally reflected the pulse and mood of the nation.

This album of favorites is at once a salute to the United States Army on its 200th Birtheday and to the Americaa society from which that Army has traditionally drawn its values and its purpose.
